Dear Chelsie, Jeanna, Rachel, James, Eric and Brandon:
Thank you... for a particularly amazing burger Saturday night. You all had a hand in creating a perfect evening out. Many of us are fortunate to have The Worthy Burger close to our backyard, shall we say. It is a well known and beloved establishment. We have several friends who tend to go about every five days and you cannot beat that Freighthouse burger nor the build-your-own six or eight ounce option with add-ons like a fried egg, avocado, sprouts, mushrooms or bacon - not to mention the cheese selections from our bountiful local producers. There are other choices like the Turducky, turkey and duck confit, or a lamb burger, something for children and for vegetarians and fish lovers too. Do you know that feeling when everything comes together and the perfect hamburger is born? This is what happened last weekend and the reason for sharing news about two amazing eateries where consistent and delicious never disappoint.
I must also fast forward to dessert. You see the burger was so delicious with all the flavours: the garlic aioli, the meat medium rare, the bacon, the glazed bun, my fries dipped in spicy mayo while my husband's fought for ketchup - that I really didn't want that dinner to end. So we ordered a 'deep fried brownie with caramel sauce' just to prolong the ecstasy. Can you imagine a brownie doughnut? It seems almost as deadly as a chip shop in Scotland offering up a deep-fried Mars bar back in the mid 1990s.
So what is that second delectable destination for another fun and casual dinner out? It is Chef Brad's CrazySide
at 1 Quechee Main street, right off route 4. I mentioned Chef Brad a while back in an article about great lunch spots click here
; yet now with summer in full swing, he is back to his unique dinners instead. His permanent location also features the same bus and myriad tables both wooden and wrought iron scattered outside. All his creations are clever with a sort of Jamaica meets India and a handful of Mediterranean thrown in. One of us always chooses two of the fish tacos and this last time Brad featured a light yet creamy mussel bisque, something so worthy of a five star restaurant. The surface featured hues of ochre and red on the buttery yellow surface while the mussels just peeked through this rich film in all their plump glory. I also love the fact that you can bring your own wine or beer and enjoy the evening light along with this year's ample storm clouds!
This is easy summer eating at its best.
