I used to love Stonearch Bakery Donuts, but alas I can no longer indulge there. I've had some donuts at Lou's of Hanover and it was excellent! Now I'm looking for something a bit more local (within Lebanon).
People have spoken in droves about the best place for donuts. Grab some and indulge this weekend.
This is a donut shop on West St. in Lebanon. People rave about their donuts. If you've never tried one, you definitely should.
Lou's on Main St. in Hanover is a great place to get donuts. I especially like their cruellers, which I got at Jake's Coffee shop in Lebanon once. Oh my. Perfect combination sweet and tender in a pastry.
Meriden Deli Mart
I hear these on Rt. 120 are excellent and you need to make sure to go early before they're out. That's a testament to just how good these donuts are.
Anne's Plainfield Store
On 12A is Anne's Country store, which I hear has amazing food. I'll have to check it out sometime. Grab a tasty, fresh donut on Saturday morning.
Marsh Brother's Deli at The Little Store
This little store on School St. is the Lebanon secret for good donuts.
The Fort makes its own donuts and people love their crullers. Apparently they're a generous portion size too, which is more of a tasty bonus.
Other Recommendations for your Donut Craving
One family goes to Chambers Farm on Middle Road in N. Clarendon, VT every Friday. Now that's a fun tradition. Others save their donut craving for apple season and go to Windy Ridge Orchard in Haverhill or Wellwood Orchards in Springfield, VT for cider donuts. I haven't been to Windy Ridge, but I do love the donuts at Wellwood. Oh man. Now I want one. You can read more cider donut recommendations here.
If you can't wait that long, Mike's Store and Deli in Hartland has fresh donuts made by Jupiter Rising Bakery every morning. You can also take your own detour or adventure and try the delicious donuts at Sharon's Trading Post or the Allen Brother's in Westminster.
I just tried Uptown Bakery's donuts in Claremont. Yummm... A friend brought them and I had to ask where she got them, so soft. Great flavors: maple, apple fritter, and chocolate glazed.
I want to go on a homemade donut road trip after reading all these recommendations, try them out and determine my favorite. Hm. This sounds like a future post on my website. Maybe a summer day trip? Then I can work it all off on a nice long hike...
