New London and Sutton Fire Departments report the successful rescue of a 38-year-old horse, which was found stuck in a brook after being missing Wednesday night. The owner reported searching all day Thursday until they found the horse unable to get out of a brook 3 or 4 feet deep.
Chip Rowe, a SFD member, responded with a mini excavator and was able to sling the horse out of the muddy brook and then stabilize the animal until he could stand on his own. The horse was then able to walk back to the barn under his own power. The horse was reported to be grazing peacefully the next day.
