Over $1 million in six years!
The 2018 edition of 19 Days of Norwich (and beyond) raised $100,471.07 for the Upper Valley Haven. That amount was generously matched by the Byrne Foundation, bringing the total to $200,942.14 for the Haven. That news was reported by Dan Fraser in a February 21 Norwich listserv post.
In the six years of 19 Days, "because of your generosity well over a million dollars cumulatively has been raised to support those in need right here in our community," said Mr. Fraser.
The full listserv post:
We are thrilled to announce that the total raised for The 19 Days of Norwich (and beyond) 1% for the Haven this year (2018) was $100,471.07, which was then match by the extremely generous Byrne Foundation resulting in a 2018 total of $200,942.14.
None of this would have been possible without the support of each and every person who participated: individuals, to participating businesses in Norwich, Hanover, WRJ, Lyme, and beyond.
2018 was our 6th year and because of your generosity well over a million dollars cumulatively has been raised to support those in need right here in our community. Yes, this is a HUGE amount of money, but the need continues to increase as more of our friends and neighbors are pushed to the brink living paycheck to paycheck. One final event or series of events can make a stable household lose its footing. Without you the safety net would not be there for those who need it.
I encourage each and everyone of you to stop by The Haven (and heck bring a canned food item with you). You will be overwhelmed and impressed with how many services that they provide- A food shelf, homeless shelter, warming shelter on the coldest nights of winter, educational programs, as well as guidance and support in other areas I am forgetting.
The "traditional" season of giving is over, but the need doesn't go away, so please think of The Haven year round. Continue all year long to support the local businesses who support the neediest in our community as well. As we have seen many local business close in recent years it is essential to make them a part of your regular shopping patterns- they are the ones who support area non-profits, sports teams, religious organizations, etc.
We look forward to having you all of us join us again next year for The 19 Days.
Again, a heartfelt thanks for proving how special The Upper Valley is.
