The Town of Canaan owns five historic painted stage curtains that have been hidden from view for many years. One is a mid 1920s curtain made for the Indian River Grange Hall. Four others are part of a romantic and atmospheric set used at Lyceum Hall when the Meeting House had a 2nd floor. Cardigan Mountain Art Association has engaged Curtains Without Borders ( to do this work. A grant from the NH State Council on the Arts/Mooseplate Program and gifts from generous donors made this project possible. The conservation team will begin work at the Meeting House on Wednesday, May 29 and work through Friday, May 31. They will be back in town on Tuesday, June 4 and finish on Wednesday, June 5 with a 7 PM display and slide show and talk by Director, Christine Hadsel. Free. All are welcome to attend. Many hands are needed to help with the project.... and it is fun, too. If you have time to give, please call Judith at 603 523-4337.
