Local Music Review
I came into possession of Allison Fay Brown’s new CD “Cardinal” at one of her performances. The mood of the five-cut recording is pensive, warm, and shadowed as she puts to music short snapshots from life.
Brown’s full resonant voice perfectly expresses the feelings behind each story. Vivid descriptions set the stage as she weaves energy and casts the net to pull the listener into her reality. The feeling of the entire collection stays consistent and never departs from the designed mood. Instrumentation supports the vocal expressions, but it is her strong singings that carries the listener along and pulls one back time and again to repeat the listening.
Her stories are the themes of life: love, loss, and desire. Though I wish the CD had the words included, her presentation is fresh, real, and powerful. She doesn’t hold back and opens her heart and life in a type of transparency that reverberates in many of us.
This is Brown’s first CD of original music. I am sure we will see many more collections in the future. You can purchase her CD from https://www.allisonfaybrown.com
